The thought of having an unwanted guest lurking around your home without you or your family knowing about it can make you cringe. This is why it is important to take all the necessary steps to protect your home and your family from these unwanted guests that is commonly known as thieves.

Today, homes in the safest neighborhoods are now considered unsafe. Strangers lurking in the corner of your neighborhood don’t choose the time and house for them to enter and steal your valuables.

It is also a fact that some of these burglaries don’t always end up getting your valuables stolen but it can sometimes end up together with other crimes, such as rape and murder. This is why you should know how to better protect your home with the latest technology available today.

Locks and latches are considered to offer minimal security to your home. This is why it is considered as a necessity today that you should also install a home burglar alarm system to better protect your home and your family. Today, manufacturers of home burglar alarm systems integrate state-of-the-art technology that offers maximum protection for everyone seeking it.

There are coded locks, laser keys, miniature cameras, and alarm systems that can be installed in every corner of your own home. Here are some burglar alarm systems that you can use today to better protect you and your home from people who have bad intentions for you, your family and your home:

- Electric circuit alarm – This type of alarm is built into entryways such as your door, and your window. An electricity flows in two opposite points and when the door is opened without the proper deactivation of the circuit, it will break the flow of the electricity between the two opposite points and will cause it to sound the alarm and automatically call the police.

- Motion detector alarm – This type of alarm is very effective in guarding a particular part of the house, such as the living room. Using the same technology in automatic doors that you see in malls, the motion detector alarm emits radio energy throughout the area of the house. It monitors the reflection pattern inside the house and if someone disturbs the pattern, the changed reflection of the pattern will be detected by the motion sensor device and will send an alarm signal to the control box. The control box will then sound the alarm and/or call the police automatically.

You can also include hidden cameras around your home. With hidden cameras, you and the police will be able to identify the intruder even if he or she escapes.

The fact that the crime rates are increasing, you should also take all the necessary steps in getting a home burglar alarm systems installed in your own home. This will add security to your own home. And, knowing that there are alarms installed in your home, it will enable you to sleep more soundly with the thought of knowing your family will be safe.

So, get your home secured with a home burglar alarm system. Ask your friends and relatives who have one installed in their home as to what kind of home burglar alarm system you should install and what burglar alarm system manufacturer you should choose. They will be able to help you with your quest to find the best home alarm systems to protect your home and also your family.

On September 26, 2006 in Lawrence, MA, an unusual story spread on the news. The story was about an old lady who encountered a burglar inside her house. According to her story, she was awaked by a stranger wearing black clothes and carrying a curved knife in his hand. The burglar never demanded for anything big from her except for an amount of $40. The victim resisted and insisted that she have no money and forced the burglar to go out of her house. The story becomes unusual because it seldom happens that a burglar leaves a home without getting something or even kills the resident.

Good enough that the 85-year old lady was not hurt by the burglar and her house was left intact. The old lady could have been killed by the burglar; her daughter who was sleeping that time may have also been harmed. The old lady admits in an interview later that after the incident her peace of mind was robbed and felt that she is no longer safe in her own house.

Not all burglary incidents are as clean and harmless as the story. Most of the time, such incidents are too destructive that it does not just harm property but also life.

If the old lady could have installed a burglar alarm system in her house maybe the burglar may have been captured by the police. Also, she could have locked her bedroom immediately before the burglar broke into it.

Burglar alarms are very important security instruments. The importance of these instruments is not just limited to securing property and life but also giving peace of mind to residents.

These tools are commonly used in stores and other business establishments. In fact they were designed to be mounted in such establishments. Nowadays, burglar alarm kits are already available for home installation.

Here are ways on how to acquire burglar alarm kits for residential use:

- Know the physical attributes of your home. Particularly, take note of the entry points in your home like windows, doors, basement exit, fire exits, etc. When these entry points are integrated with the alarm system, you have a higher chance of detecting unauthorized entry.

- Look for security companies that offers burglar alarm system kit installation. Asking the police department for lists of companies is a more effective way of looking for a security company that is trustworthy. Upon finding several prospect companies, ask for a written quote and invite them for a home inspection.

- There are several types of alarm systems. In many cities, there are alarms that do not make sounds but can detect movements and can alarm the police directly. There are also alarms that sounds loud to let you and neighbors know of an illegal entry and can drive away burglars. The next type is the telephone relayed alarm that when an illegal entry is detected, the system dials the police or the security company’s number and plays a recorded message alarming the latter that something wrong is going on. These three are just some of so many types of burglar alarm systems. Look for one that you deem most suitable for your home and your location.

- Draft a good physical plan where you want to put the control panel, the keypad and other necessary component included in the kit. The control panel is basically a switch that turns the alarm on and off. Make sure that this important component is installed in the most strategic location.

- You may also choose the general alarm. There are alarms that do not just detect movements but as well as temperature changes, flood, smoke, etc.

Alarm systems are meant to protect lives and belongings if they are positioned, used, and maintained properly. Datum show that homes without a burglar alarm system (for example) are four times more likely to be targeted. Alarm systems are also great for fires and other crises. Alarm systems are installed strategically in consultation with home and building owners. Another benefit of alarm systems is that insurance companies will render diminished rates for building and/or homeowners insurance if the proper burglar and/or fire alarm systems are installed. And dont forget, Fire alarm systems are operational and on-duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

There are a throng of divergent applications for alarms. The most frequent are of course the fire and trespass types, but other applications are being unfurled at a ardent pace. Think of applications such as medical alarm systems (also called personal alarms, and medical alert devices). These systems are conceived to activate the EMS service in the event that a sufferer becomes injured, sick or ill.

Alarm systems can be stand-alone (i.e. a acoustic device is set off in the case of an intrusion or fire event), or they may be monitored by an outer monitoring company. Remote alarm systems are exploited to connect the control unit to a preset monitor of some sort, and they come in many different configurations. Telecom lines are traditionally utilized to broadcast a sign when an alarm event (fire, break-in, etc.) occurs. These systems are interfaced with an auto-dialer that will mechanically give notice to the fire or police departments in the event of burglary or fire. Most monitored burglar alarm systems are equipped with hi-tech battery and/or mobile backup systems that kick in straight away should your power or phone connection fail. This forestalls a would-be thief from cutting off the phone line to preclude the alarm system from notifying the monitoring service.

Some alarm systems are tied to video surveillance systems so that current video of an intrusion area can be instantly displayed on a remote monitor, not to mention recorded. With new technology, alarm systems are not only available as hardwired devices, but also as wireless. The introduction of wireless alarm technology means that new sensors can be added quickly and easily without the need to run wires back to a control panel.

One of the major downsides to alarm systems are false alarms. When an alarm system is not properly installed, used or maintained, the number of calls for police and fire dispatches may increase. In many municipalities the alarm owner may be fined or cited if the alarm system becomes a nuisance. But this being said, in 1994 the International Association of Chiefs of Police passed a Board Resolution stating that professionally installed and monitored alarm systems are useful instruments to deter crime and provide peace of mind for residential and business owners.

HAS YOUR BURGLAR ALARM ACCREDITED BY LAW?

Due to safety precautions it is mandatory that every alarm installed in your house is registered with FARS. Before the system is placed into service you must check for the following accreditation,
- NSI (National Security Inspectorate)
- NACOSS (National Approval Council for Security Systems)
- ICON (an approval scheme run by NSI)
- SSAIB (Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board)
Registration
A non-refundable $30.00 registration fee must be paid with each initial registration. A separate registration must be obtained for each alarm user and/or location. Registrations must be renewed on a biennial (2 year) basis at a cost of $10.00. Failure to renew when required will result in no “free” false alarms and the imposition of an additional $100 charge for every false alarm.

False alarm
The main reason for the burglar alarm to be accredited by the government is because of false alarms. Each year the Oakland Police Department receives more than 30,000 false alarms! On average, each response to alarms involves two police officers and takes up to thirty minutes-costing the City in excess of 1.4 million, annually. This is equal to 14 full-time police officers responding only to false alarms.

The burglar alarm ordinance
- Authorizes permit fees (waived for alarm users age 65 and older)
- Authorizes fines and penalties for defective or misused alarm systems
- Requires alarm companies to play a greater role in how customers use and maintain their alarm systems.

Paying for your permit

What ever type of alarm you use it should be accredited by the government. If you have an alarm system that is functional and is activated, the alarm ordinance requires you to obtain a valid alarm user permit. Please remember, if you do not have a permit and the Police Department is dispatched to your location for a false alarm, you will may be subjected to a $250 fine.

Burglary is one of the most commonly committed crimes in the United States. Most homeowners fear that their homes are at risk of being broken into that they purchase insurance to protect them from losses due to burglary and fires.

But more than the insurance to protect them from the losses, a more important thing to consider is to install alarms to monitor and alert authorities on unauthorized entry and in cases of fire.

No insurance company can recover the losses due to damaged or stolen files, pictures, and items of sentimental value. Insurance companies also cannot restore you the delay and the time lost due to the hassles in filing for a claim. It is because of this that alarm systems are as important, if not more valuable, than insurance to one’s home.

In buying alarm system, don’t just purchase whatever is popular in the market. Consider your needs, the house structure, its wiring system and other aspects of your household before deciding on what to install for your house. Remember that what could have been effective for another house or establishment may not be effective for yours.

Here are a few things to think about before going about buying one.

* How many entrances are going to be integrated into the alarm system?

Consider the number of windows and doors in the house. It is advisable that all windows and doors, even the smaller attic windows, should be connected to the alarm system. The number of entrances determines the complexity of the wirings and it also determines where you should put control centers to turn the alarm on or off.

* Decide on the alarm system company to install the security devices.

Consult a security system specialist, an insurance agency, the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) or the police department for recommendations.

Make sure that the company does a free survey and inspection. Ask for the installer’s recommendation, explanation for his assessment and the price quote. Have it properly documented so you can compare it with the contract, once you decided to avail of the services of the company.

You also have an option to buy a do-it-yourself alarm system, although this may not be as reliable as a system install by professionals. This is usually the “bells only” system where the homeowner is alerted by a sound if unauthorized entry sets the alarm off.

* Should you subscribe to monitoring station?
An advanced alarm system can connect to 24-hour monitoring company and alerts them if the system has recorded a breaking-in. The monitoring company then alarms the local police. This is the best option, though an agreement with a monitoring company requires a monthly fee.

Another option, which is less expensive, is to install dialer accessories that will b linked to your phone line. In case a break-in was detected, the dialer can call several pre-programmed numbers such as your cell phone number to inform you of the intruder. A problem that can occur with this, however, is that if the burglar had cut-off the phone lines before the entry, the dialer accessories will be of no good.

* Decide on the sensors’ location and sensitivity.

This is very important if the people who live in the house gets up at night and roams around the house. Also, consider the presence of pets that can set the alarm system off.

If you have a motion sensor, make sure that this is install in places high enough not be disturbed by pets. You can also ask about motion sensors that will not be triggered by pets. These sensors can identify the size and the weight of the target.

If you have an infrared sensor, make sure it is properly located so it wouldn’t detect areas that have heat sources.

* Assess the proper location for the control panel and keypads.

Ideally, a keypad is near the front door for ease in turning the alarm on/off when leaving the house or upon getting home. Another keypad may be mounted near the bedrooms, to be a manual trigger, in case an entry was not detected by the alarm system.

* Check the possibility of home automation.

There are burglar alarm systems that can also be connected to carbon monoxide and smoke sensors, flood detectors and the lighting system. This may be helpful in turning on all the lights during emergencies.

* Type of controls

The controls should be easy to use that the household members can remember how to use it during emergency situations. The switches should also be properly protected to prevent damages of freezing when the climate changes.

* Should you go wired or wireless?

The difference here depends on the complexity of the installation. A wired system is complex and requires drilling holes on the walls. A wireless system costs a little more than the wired system but its installation is not inconvenient.

With this information, you can be prepared when selecting what type of alarm system will be needed for your home.

Homeland securitization has been given so much importance over the past few years that we have almost forgotten the importance of our own house and the importance of a good home security alarm. While burglary in your property may not make the headlines, it is in your best interest to safeguard property by installing a good home security alarm.

According to the US bureau of Justice Statistics there were 14 million incidents of theft on property and in 83% incidents the burglars had entered the house or building located in the property. You might feel safe by locking your doors and windows but there are ways to enter a house known only to people who commit burglary for living. Burglars always strike by surprise; to underestimate their resourcefulness would be a mistake you would not want to make at any cost.

There are many types of home security alarm, which can help you effectively protect a property, belongings and more importantly your family from burglars. Home security alarm is one of the more trusted methods to protect your house from burglars; a simple home security alarm generally makes a loud sound or dials a number like 911, your cell phone or a neighbor and sends a pre recorded distress message. Some systems connect themselves with the smoke alarms which notify the fire department immediately. Then there is also the monitored house securitizing systems which are considered the safest of all and the local systems which are considered safer than monitored property securitizing systems, yet cheaper.

Many securitizing systems come with a sign board that can be mounted on the door, mailbox or anywhere else where they can be noticed. Burglars generally target un-protected houses and leave alone the houses protected by any type of home security alarm. As for starters, the cheapest home security alarm is the “do it yourself” systems, you need to do all the installation and setup yourself, but if you are on a budget these are the right ones for you. A home security alarm not only helps in preventing burglary but it also helps in minimizing the loss in case the burglars break into a house because they fear a backup or the sound which might alert the neighbors or the police.

Security is something we need to have, not only in our jobs and our finances, but also in our safety and our homes. Every person has dreamt of owning their own home, its our own personal castle where we can do anything we want without other people telling us what to do. It is also our personal space, and if someone breaks that private sanctity, we feel naked and vulnerable. That’s why we need to have a burglar alarm to protect our security.

To all DIY enthusiasts, you now have a chance to get a DIY burglar alarm. Of course, we are all aware of the many crimes that go unpunished nowadays. Even people who commit crimes are more sophisticated now; they have cutting edge gadgets that make it easier for them to break into homes. Don’t you think it’s also time for you to start thinking of your safety and counter their gadgets with your own?

It’s all over the news, crimes like robberies, hold ups, burglaries; happen everyday and are the typical news that you’ll see over the television or hear over the radio. Criminals are not scared anymore, and perhaps the best step to take is to install a burglar alarm.

The results of many statistical surveys reveal that a home with a burglar alarm system has fewer chances to fall victim to burglary. The burglar will easily take notice of the alarm, because he would prefer a home without it. First and foremost, criminals love the dark, and they don’t want any burglar alarm to come in their way. And most specially, they don’t want to get caught. So if your home has a burglar alarm, he will think twice before entering.

If you’re concerned of your residential home, burglar alarms are quite easy to install as compared to the security systems installed in banks and other large institutions. DIY burglar alarm kits are less expensive, easy to fit and understand.

It is best if you can find a burglar alarm which is of top quality to ensure your home’s safety, and your family’s safety as well. Beware of DIY burglar alarms which are very cheap, because it is not that reliable.

Once you’ve chosen a DIY, you will be provided with installation manuals which will help you in configuring your system. You will learn how to re-program it, the engineering and user codes, maintenance, and administering the burglar alarm.

Fitting your very own burglar alarm system should be based on your personal planning and design. You will need extra tools for its installation, and though it might take longer to do the work, it’s all worth it for your safety.

The burglar alarm has three parts, the detector, control panel, and the signaling device. These parts are connected with each other through multi-core cables, and just recently, you can even find wireless connections. If you want, you can choose between a wired and wireless connection, it all depends on your safety needs.

DIY burglar alarms are not hard to find. You can find them just about anywhere. Local stores and shops offer this small yet amazing gadget. You can find great deals, but again, remember to choose a good quality burglar alarm. Don’t sacrifice quality for the cost. Top quality burglar alarms at a reasonable price are the best choice. Start your search by checking out different shops. It’s better if you can find a shop which can provide you a more personalized service, like for instance, a shop which can teach you some of the basics about burglar alarms.

It was during the eighteenth century that burglar alarm made its name as a mode to identify who entered a certain passageway, such as doors or windows. Nowadays, burglar alarms are not solely used as an indication for possible entrance or exit of unwanted visitors.

For convenience purposes most people opt for do-it-yourself burglar alarm packages. By having so, they will be able to save money from the installation fee.
Location

These days you have the option where to install your burglar alarm – walls, doors, windows or ceilings – name it and you can have it installed in your preferred area.

Add-ons

Sensors can be made available. Sensors alert the alarm’s control panel whenever the sensor has been crossed. Moreover, there are add-on gadgets to detect movements and sounds. As the name implies, the motion detectors can identify movements and the sound detectors can distinguish odd sounds around the place. Motion detectors are often used in seldom-visited areas in a home or in an establishment.

Other factors may be considered before you purchase a burglar alarm. What you need to do is look for a respectable and highly regarded manufacturer of security equipments. It is best to undergo a company background check to ensure that you are in good hands.

The governing rules for having your preferred burglar alarm are another aspect you might want to look into.

Burglar alarms have become things of common place in almost all super stores and business set ups. Private homes are not left out too far behind. Advancements in technologies and competition in the market have brought down the rates to around $10 for a basic alarm system.

How Does Burglar Alarms Work
Wired alarms are almost extinct. Wireless burglar alarms operate by either of the two means, today.

1.Connected by radio frequency

2.Connected by infra red light rays

Wired systems required power to operate continuously unlike the wireless alarms which run on battery power. There is the third type, which combines the features of the earlier two and is known as hybrid alarm.

Burglar alarms operate on simple principles. When their ‘connection’ or circuit cuts, they get triggered. When intruders pass between two sensors or a door opens it is detected by their cut circuit.

Normally there are 2 types of circuits; open circuit systems and closed circuit systems. Let us not get into jargons and cliche words; closed circuit operates when the door is closed as electricity begins to flow. But when interrupted by opening doors, circuit also opens and the alarm goes off. And it is the exact reverse of this in open circuit alarms. The siren is triggered when doors are closed.

Closed circuit alarms are first choice for front doors for the fear of wiring being cut by burglars.

How does a sensor work, after all? In a wired system, a magnet pulls the spring loaded switch to close circuit when door is closed. When the door opens, spring retracts causing the circuit to break and triggering the alarm. The principle is same for wireless infrared system too. In place of magnets and wires, there are infrared sensors and emitters. If sensors don’t sense infrared light for reasons like opened door or other obstructions, the circuit is broken.

Burglar Alarms are also useful in protecting cars. FM radio based car alarms are getting popular because of their simplicity. They have a two part system: a transmitter, fitted to the car and a receiver which can be out side the car (home or office). The receiver makes noise when burglars move the car a few meters out of your porch. If the wireless alarm (transmitter) is disconnected from battery, remote alarm still remains activated because the receiver still continues to make noise. So this type of burglar alarm is highly reliable.

While installing, ensure you follow specified codes by insurance companies or certify it by third parties like Underwriters’ Laboratory etc. After all, you need someone even after burglar alarms are breached.
